How does Tempra’s Sealed Ration Heater work?
Tempra’s Sealed Ration Heater (SRH) is a completely self-contained, flameless heating system. Once activated, the internal components initiate the heating process without requiring an external energy source.
Does the Tempra SRH require water to activate?
No. Unlike conventional MRE heaters that require water for activation, Tempra’s SRH is fully self-contained and requires no added water, an important advantage in environments where water is scarce or must be conserved for hydration.
Does the Tempra SRH produce hydrogen gas or other flammable off-gases?
No. Tempra’s sealed heating technology does not generate or release flammable gas. This is a significant difference from conventional flameless ration heaters that can generate hydrogen during operation.
Can the Tempra SRH be used in enclosed or mobile environments?
Yes. Because it is sealed, water-free and does not release flammable gas, the SRH is particularly suited for environments such as aircraft, submarines, military vehicles, bunkers and shelters. It can also be used while in motion and operated while wearing gloves.
Has Tempra’s SRH been tested for military applications?
Yes. Tempra’s heater was reviewed and tested through work involving the Compat Rations Teams at SBCCOM/Natick, including field testing. Testing addressed manufacturability, shelf life, package compatibility and rough handling; the documented rough-handling testing included shock, vibration and drops associated with helicopter and C-130 cargo-plane testing.
